Mechanic (Gas Technician)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanical Gas Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of gas systems, gas-fired equipment, and related mechanical systems throughout the property. The role supports the Engineering Department by ensuring gas infrastructure operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations and company standards while minimizing operational disruptions and supporting an exceptional guest experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Gas Systems & Mechanical Maintenance

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair LPG and gas distribution systems throughout the property.
  • Conduct routine inspections of gas pipelines, valves, regulators, meters, and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair gas leaks, equipment faults, and mechanical failures.
  • Maintain and service gas-powered kitchen, laundry, and engineering equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on gas systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Support refurbishment, renovation, and engineering projects as required.

II. Work Orders & Inventory

  • Respond to gas and mechanical maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of gas-related spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
  • Order and manage materials through approved purchasing processes.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.

III. Guest Service & Teamwork

  • Maintain positive relationships with guests and associates.
  • Minimize disruption to hotel operations while carrying out maintenance work.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and other departments to ensure timely completion of repairs.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas at all times.
  • Support operational requirements during emergencies and equipment breakdowns.

IV. Safety & Compliance

  • Follow company safety, security, and maintenance procedures at all times.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and use of LPG and other gas systems.
  • Conduct routine safety checks and leak detection testing.
  • Report hazards, accidents, and equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with gas regulations, workplace health and safety standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with company standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Trade Certificate or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Gas Fitting, Plumbing, Refrigeration, or a related trade.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in gas systems maintenance, mechanical services, or facilities maintenance.
  • Knowledge of LPG systems, gas distribution networks, valves, regulators, burners, and gas-fired equipment.
  • Experience in hospitality, commercial, industrial, or facilities maintenance environments is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements related to gas systems.
  • Ability to read basic technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to safely operate tools, testing equipment, and maintenance machinery.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  • Must have working rights in Fiji.
