The VP, Benefits will have a critical leadership role, ensuring the organization is able to effectively design, develop, and execute employee benefits programs to attract and retain talent around the world, ultimately driving the business forward. This position reports to the Global Officer, Compensation & Benefits and serves as a principal member of the HR leadership team.
The Managing VP, Benefits will be responsible for re-defining and continually evolving the benefits and wellbeing strategy, including strategic thought leadership, program support and consulting on all areas of benefits including health and wellness, work-life, leave and time-off, retirement, and global wellbeing programs while driving adherence to a Total Rewards mindset. The Managing VP, Benefits is expected to pull through the “People First” mindset across the organization and ensuring our practices are recognized globally as being best-in-class. This individual will contribute a high level of specialized knowledge, skill, consultative leadership and broad business management to ensure the Benefits COE is highly effective in its organizational impact, operational cost management, and alignment to support the company’s growth strategy.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Managing VP Benefits leads the Benefits COE and partners with our Continent Chief Human Resource Officers to understand their priorities, bring industry-wide best practices to the company’s global population, and identify global efficiencies and synergies.
The Managing VP, Benefits has ownership and accountability for:
- Leading the global benefits strategy partnering with regional leaders and the Managing VP, Compensation to elevate global total rewards, ensuring offerings meet business goals and talent strategies.
- Driving a culture of quality and operational excellence balanced with innovation to continually elevate and evolve the Benefits and wellbeing function.
- Driving thought leadership for and adoption of best-in-class benefits, wellbeing and work/life strategies globally, leading a team of benefits professionals to evolve and deliver on the vision.
- Integrating benefits, wellbeing and work-life solutions to provide a cohesive associate experience, optimizing internal and external partner relationships (technology and services).
- Ensure the successful delivery across all benefits, wellbeing and work/life program for the U.S. and Canada population.
- Partnering with leaders across the organization to offer competitive benefits while managing budgets and achieving cost efficiencies.
Some of the role’s near-term priorities include the following:
- Lead the strategy, refine goals and develop a roadmap to drive a framework, ensuring benefits, wellbeing and work/life program global standards are integrated with local practices and competitive norms.
- Identify opportunities to gain cost and administrative efficiencies in scaling and consolidating vendors, insurance carriers, programs and benefits policies regionally and/or globally.
- Optimize benefits offerings, integrating and delivering benefits, wellbeing and work-life solutions that are competitive, accessible, inclusive and affordable to support our global workforce.
- Identify opportunities to leverage Marriott’s customer loyalty programs to enhance benefit offerings, including Marriott’s hotel discount program (Explore by Marriott Bonvoy) and Marriott Bonvoy program partnerships to attract top talent and elevate the associate experience.
- Continue to evolve associate resources such as the TakeCare Relief Fund, recognition programs and other lifecycle benefit programs.
- Collaborate the with the HR Communications team to amplify marketing of benefits offerings, internally and externally, showcasing the value and care for candidates and associates.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in Human Resources and/or benefits experience with progressively expanding responsibilities required. Five years or more in a senior US/Canada benefits leadership capacity in an organization with a large, dispersed workforce or equivalent experience.
- Advanced systems knowledge in the following: Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM), Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and enterprise systems.
In addition to the education and experience above, the ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with strong business acumen, strategic insight, analytical abilities, sound judgment and in-depth executive experience in HR and business. The ideal candidate will have proven and impactful experience in the following:
- Demonstrated experience in senior leadership level conceptualizing and designing benefits programs, plans and infrastructure in a large, complex dispersed organization
- Reputation as a thought leader in the benefits industry is desired, as the right candidate will have relationships in the benefits external marketplace and understand current and emerging benefits trends.
- Data analytics in benefits. Demonstrated ability to manage and pull insights from large sets of data for decision making. The right candidate will have deep experience in blending cost and external competitiveness to drive deployment decisions and necessary adjustments across all departments served with a data driven approach to benefits.

The salary range for this position is $215,775 to $344,400 annually. Marriott offers a bonus program, comprehensive health care benefits, 401(k) plan with up to 5% company match, employee stock purchase plan at 15% discount, accrued paid time off (including sick leave where applicable), life insurance, group disability insurance, travel discounts, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, health savings account (except for positions based out of or performed in Hawaii), flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, pre-tax commuter benefits, other life and work wellness benefits, and may include other incentives such as stock awards and deferred compensation plans. Benefits and incentive compensation may be subject to generally applicable eligibility, waiting period, contribution, and other requirements and conditions.
