Area Chief Engineer

Summary:

An Area Chief Engineer for the Hotel Division of Summit Hospitality Group is responsible for the general maintenance of the guest rooms/suites, meeting spaces, public areas, food & beverage outlets, employee work areas/rooms on the properties. The Area Chief Engineer will be directed and supervised by the General Managers and perform repairs and maintenance on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, kitchen, and laundry equipment as well as exterior physical assets of the hotels. The Area Chief Engineer will supervise and lead engineers and engineer techs daily.

 

Qualifications:

· 3-5 years maintenance/facility management experience (hotel experience preferred)

· 3-5 years leadership experience managing hourly employees

· Computer literate

· Experience performing repairs on mechanical, electrical, kitchen, and laundry equipment

· Comfortable providing training and direction to engineering associates and helpers on daily repairs and trade work

· Comfortable managing and directing outside vendors & contractors including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, refrigeration, building controls, fire & life safety etc.

· Skilled at recognizing potential safety hazards and security problems and acting upon them immediately

· Skilled at recognizing potential property damage & liability concerns and acting upon them immediately

· Excellent people engagement skills and problem solving

· Demonstrated ability to multi-task in high volume & upscale full service hotel properties

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred

· Command of the English language including speaking, writing, reading

· Availability for AM/PM and weekends and holidays

· Customer service oriented

· Team and goal oriented

· Able to work with department other department heads (rooms, management, food & beverage, sales) to achieve business goals

 

Responsibilities:

· Work directly with other Chief Engineer(s) to manage hourly associates and provide daily/weekly goals, tracking progress, managing administrative work, invoices, quotes contracts, and HR concerns, etc.

· Maintains HVAC, boilers, electrical, carpentry, dry walling, painting, plumbing, and landscaping, commercial kitchen equipment, IT/computer related items, fire alarm/sprinkler, parking gates/parking areas, indoor/outdoor dining areas, bars, kitchen hoods, key locks & security equipment & any other physical assets on site.

· Manages all required building inspections, fire marshal and fire & life safety requirements for the City, backflow inspections, generator inspections, storm water control inspections, kitchen hood inspections, health inspections.

· Preventative maintenance for hotel product quality standards

· Assist & Lead hourly engineers in making repairs on guest room assets, toilets, furniture & fixtures, sinks, kitchen and laundry equipment, and all food and beverage outlet assets

· Proactively troubleshoots and helps engineers on IT and building systems.

· Supports established policies and procedures for Corporate and Brand standards

· Supports hotel’s training needs and efforts

· Assists in keeping properties in a condition that meets or exceeds Quality Assurance audits

· Leads departments in hotel safety procedures and Safety Committee

· Duties are subject to change and additional responsibilities/tasks may be assigned as needed.

· Ensures complete guest satisfaction in a friendly and helpful manner

· Understand & work with each property’s operating budget guidelines set by GM & ownership

 

Work Environment:

· Flexible work schedule including availability on nights and weekends

· Must have reliable source of transportation

· Must be able to stand up and move about the facility for the majority of shift

· Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push & pull up to 50 lbs

· Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently, and squeezing & overhead reaching occasionally

· Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, walk on uneven surfaces on a frequent basis

· Must be able to frequently handle objects and equipment to maintain the facility

· The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

· Must have the ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates, or permits

· Valid Driver’s license
