Assistant Chief Engineer

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports in managing all engineering and facilities operations across the property. This role ensures the efficient maintenance of the resort’s physical assets, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems, while supporting budgeting, capital projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. The position drives operational excellence, ensures compliance with safety and brand standards, and contributes to enhancing guest satisfaction and employee engagement.
This role is island‑based and requires working on a rostered stay‑on‑island schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operations Management & Property Maintenance
- Support the day-to-day operations of the Engineering department
- Supervise the distribution and completion of repair and maintenance work orders
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs
- Manage and maintain the physical plant including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and safety systems
- Oversee contractors and external service providers to ensure quality and compliance
- Identify and recommend repair, renovation, and maintenance requirements
- Ensure proper inventory and availability of tools, equipment, and supplies
- Step in to manage department operations in the absence of the Chief Engineer
2. Asset Protection & Facility Standards
- Inspect facilities regularly and determine maintenance and repair needs
- Ensure cleanliness, safety, and functionality of all engineering areas and equipment
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, records, and documentation
- Operate and monitor critical systems such as generators and fire pumps
- Provide timely emergency response and maintenance support
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
3. Financial Management & Budget Support
- Assist in managing departmental budgets and controlling costs
- Support capital expenditure planning and project execution
- Monitor usage of materials, equipment, and resources to ensure cost efficiency
- Contribute to achieving financial targets and protecting owner investments
4. Guest Experience & Service Excellence
- Promote a service culture focused on guest satisfaction and responsiveness
- Support the resolution of maintenance-related guest concerns promptly
- Set a positive example in interactions with guests and team members
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve service quality and operational efficiency
5. Leadership & Team Management
- Support, guide, and supervise engineering team members
- Foster teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication
- Monitor performance and provide coaching and feedback
- Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies
- Assist in managing staffing levels to meet operational needs
6. Human Resources & Talent Development
- Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and training of engineering associates
- Support safety training and ensure adherence to safe work practices
- Participate in performance reviews and employee development planning
- Promote employee engagement through open communication and feedback
- Contribute to maintaining a positive and productive work environment
7. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with company policies, SOPs, LSOPs, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain safe working conditions and enforce use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ensure proper handling and storage of hazardous materials and chemicals
- Support sustainability and energy conservation initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Engineering, Building & Construction, Mechanics, or related field with 4 years’ experience of experience in a similar field
- Technical knowledge in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance systems
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and facility management
- Knowledge of safety standards, building codes, and compliance requirements
- Good leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to operational needs
