ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Engineering is a key member of the hotel leadership team, reporting to the General Manager and safeguarding the property’s assets and operational resilience. This role oversees infrastructure, plant systems, and life-safety compliance to uphold the brand’s promise of luxury and excellence. Beyond technical expertise, the Director drives long-term asset protection, sustainability, and capital projects that enhance guest experience and owner value. Partnering with Rooms, F&B, and Finance, they deliver integrated solutions that optimize performance and reduce risk. Combining commercial acumen with technical mastery, this leader fosters a culture of safety, precision, and continuous improvement. As a trusted advisor, they influence strategic decisions, manage vendor relationships, and ensure every initiative aligns with brand standards—maintaining and elevating the property for the future.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a Director of Engineering role or equivalent senior engineering positions.
• At least 5 years experience in hotel or lodging operations.
• Holds relevant professional training and certification, including IOSH, Legionella, and other mandatory qualifications.
• Experience with large scale renovation projects highly preferred.
• Experience from Marriott branded operations preferred, but not required.

YOUR ROLE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Strategic Leadership & Operational Oversight

  • Contributes to W London’s strategic planning, prioritizing quality and guest experience.
  • Develops and executes engineering strategies aligned with business goals; ensures systems run safely and efficiently.
  • Sets clear priorities and performance standards for team consistency and excellence.
  • Uses KPIs, guest feedback, and financial data to drive improvements and inform decisions.
  • Aligns engineering initiatives with brand vision and evolving guest expectations.
  • Acts as a visible leader, fostering accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Leads cross-functional planning to deliver actionable strategies with measurable outcomes.

Engineering Operations & Asset Management

  • Oversees daily operations and ensures compliance with brand and regulatory standards.
  • Manages preventive maintenance, asset protection, and work order systems (GXP, Transcendent).
  • Champions change initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
  • Evaluates and implements innovative technologies for competitiveness.
  • Ensures property safety, maintenance, and luxury standards; leads PPM.
  • Directs renovation and construction projects, including budgeting and contracting.
  • Maintains safety compliance and asset security.
  • Oversees inventory, contractor performance, and vendor relationships for cost efficiency.
  • Coordinates with landlords and vendors for operational compliance.

Financial Performance & Revenue Optimization

  • Manages departmental P&L, cost controls, and contracts for optimal financial results.
  • Optimizes budgets, energy efficiency, and expenses while protecting asset value.
  • Ensures compliance with Marriott procurement standards for best value.
  • Partners with Finance to identify savings without compromising quality.
  • Uses financial reports and KPIs to guide decisions and manage variances.
  • Leads cost-containment initiatives to maximize ROI while maintaining standards.

Safety, Compliance & Standards

  • Acts as health and safety lead, maintaining accurate compliance documentation.
  • Oversees Fire Life Safety systems and ensures operational effectiveness.
  • Partners with landlords and agents on compliance responsibilities.
  • Leads safety training and conducts proactive inspections.
  • Maintains regulatory and Marriott compliance; updates promptly.
  • Ensures adherence to safety protocols across all systems; keeps licenses current.
  • Handles life safety systems and COSHH compliance for equipment and chemicals.
  • Submits required reports to Marriott and authorities on time.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and accountability within Engineering.

Change Management, Innovation & Project Management

  • Implements brand and regional initiatives aligned with property goals.
  • Leads major projects—renovations, upgrades, sustainability—with strategic focus.
  • Encourages agile thinking and creative problem-solving.
  • Drives innovation through technology and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Develops project plans, budgets, and timelines; manages bidding and contractors.
  • Partners with leadership on strategic projects impacting assets and guest experience.
