Director of Engineering

The Director of Engineering is responsible for managing the hotel’s physical operations, including maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment, with a strong focus on safety, security, and asset protection. The role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, manages budgets, and leads the engineering team to deliver exceptional guest experiences while optimizing financial performance. 

Candidate Profile

  • 5 years’ experience as Director of Engineering in 5-star luxury hotel property with multiple units attached
  • Preferable Navy background
  • MBA preferable, Engineering degrees required 
  • High business acumen, experience in an organization where Engineering is a Revenue and Profit generator, possess and good financial acumen for budget control.
  • Proven success in full hotel renovation including MEP
  • Strong knowledge of building systems and safety standards.
  • Ability to manage teams and budgets effectively, successful management (providing leadership) for at least 40 associates
  • Environmental centric, ability to drive energy conservation and cost-saving initiatives and control expenses (energy, water, tools, service agreements).
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Have Implement preventative maintenance programs and long-term asset protection plans.
  • Participate in capital expenditure planning and project supervision. 
  • Strategic thinking aligned with brand goals.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee the physical plant: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, water treatment systems.
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs and long-term asset protection plans.
  • Ensure life safety systems (fire alarms, sprinklers) are fully operational.

Budget & Financial Management

  • Develop and manage engineering budgets.
  • Control expenses (energy, water, tools, service agreements).
  • Participate in capital expenditure planning and project supervision.

Compliance & Standards

  • Maintain all licenses, permits, and certifications.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Leadership

  • Coach and support engineering team leaders.
  • Communicate departmental goals clearly and consistently.

Emergency Response

  • Lead emergency response for facility issues.
