The Hotel General Manager is responsible for the overall operation, profitability, guest satisfaction, and team performance of the hotel. The GM leads department managers, ensures operational standards are maintained, and drives revenue and financial results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily hotel operations, including front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, food & beverage, and sales.
- Lead, coach, and evaluate department managers and hotel staff.
- Maintain high standards for guest service, cleanliness, safety, and compliance.
- Manage annual budgets, forecasts, payroll, and operating expenses.
- Monitor occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, revenue, and profitability.
- Work with sales and marketing teams to increase occupancy and revenue.
- Handle guest complaints and resolve operational issues.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, local regulations, and brand standards.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and retain employees.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas.
- Review financial and operational reports and implement corrective actions.
- Build relationships with guests, vendors, ownership, and community partners.
- Create a positive workplace culture focused on accountability and hospitality excellence.
Typical Qualifications:
- 2–5+ years of hotel management experience, including department-head or assistant-GM experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, customer-service, and financial-management skills.
- Knowledge of hotel PMS, budgeting, labor management, and revenue-management practices.
Education: High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Typically 2–5+ years of hotel management experience, with prior supervisory or Assistant General Manager experience preferred.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, coach, and hold employees accountable.
Financial Skills: Experience with budgets, payroll, P&L statements, forecasting, and controlling labor and operating expenses.
Operations: Strong understanding of front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, food & beverage, sales, and hotel safety procedures.
Guest Service: Excellent customer-service and conflict-resolution skills.
Communication: Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Technology: Ability to use hotel PMS, Microsoft Office, scheduling, and reporting systems.
Sales & Revenue: Understanding of occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, revenue management, and hotel sales strategies.
Availability: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies when needed.
Physical Requirements: Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and inspect hotel rooms and facilities.
Licenses/Certifications: Any required local certifications or permits; hospitality certifications are a plus.
