JOB SUMMARY  

Corporate Financial Accounting (“CFA”) is a headquarters-based accounting department responsible for the Corporate Discipline accounting and reporting relating to various complex topics including, but not limited to, Marriott’s investments, program & services, development, joint ventures, foreign exchange, debt, and Environment, Social, and Governance (“ESG”).  

The Senior Manager reports to the Vice President, CFA, and is an integral member of the Finance team.  This highly motivated individual will be responsible for financial reporting across the organization as needed due to open positions.  Additionally, the individual will assist in process transformation projects and other special projects.  The Senior Manager will interact with all levels of management and various departments.  The position will provide exposure to many aspects of Marriott through accounting, reporting, and analysis of actual and forecasted results for diverse CFA departments including Investment Accounting; Global Design Finance and Accounting; Transactions and Operations Accounting; Joint Venture Accounting; Banking Accounting; Program & Services Revenue Accounting, Risk Management Accounting,  and ESG.  In addition, this person will take the lead on a variety of special projects and must be able to manage multiple tasks concurrently.  

 EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS  

  • As assigned, manage the end-to-end accounting and reporting processes for Marriott’s investments (intangibles, loans, and guarantees), transactions and operations (Software, Relocation, Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL), and Owned Leased properties and Transactions), programs and services (cost reimbursements revenue and expenses), development, joint venture, foreign exchange, cash, debt, risk management, and ESG groups.   
  • Manage monthly consolidated profit and loss reporting and analysis in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 
  • Review and analyze incoming support information and data.  Partner with internal and external contributors to clarify unusual activity and resolve any issues that arise.  Synthesize information for summarized outgoing reports to senior and executive management. 
  • Ensure compliance with Internal and External Audit requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley requirements for relevant processes.  Ensure that key controls are properly performed.    
  • Create, update, and review job aids, internal control, and other process documentation. 
  • Participate in process reviews to identify opportunities and assist in the development of improvements, including automation, to enhance efficiency. 
  • Complete special reporting and analytical projects as assigned. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs. 

 

 CANDIDATE PROFILE  

KEY TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Six or more years of progressive accounting experience.  Job experience related to hospitality or real estate accounting and international accounting a plus. 
  • Prior experience managing a team in a complex, service-intensive, and deadline-driven environment a plus. 
  • Experience in a large public accounting firm strongly preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles. 
  • High degree of initiative, personal responsibility, and integrity. 
  • Experience with accounting in a multi-currency environment under multiple bases of accounting. 
  • Strong business process and documentation skills; capable of developing effective processes, enhancing existing processes, and producing high-quality results. 
  • Proven manager with the ability to provide counsel and lead a team toward the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives and promote a positive working environment, including promoting the development of team members. Motivator; inspires extraordinary performance in others. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative work environment.  Ability to concisely articulate issues to a variety of individuals at multiple levels within Marriott, as well as external parties. 
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and under pressure.  Comfort with challenging the status quo to improve effectiveness.

  • Excellent PC skills: Advance knowledge of Microsoft applications  including Excel, Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate, and Alteryx; Experience with Peoplesoft and Hyperion a plus. 
  • Able to take complex information and present it in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Effective problem-solving abilities; recognizes and researches problems, identifies their underlying causes, and recommends and implements solutions. 
  • Excellent organizational skills; effective in planning and managing multiple priorities to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION 

  • Baccalaureate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required 
  • CPA, MBA, or advanced degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
